About the K-6 Program
The
K-6 After-School Program at the Honickman Learning Center/Comcast Technology Labs provides a safe, nurturing and challenging
academic environment where children are encouraged to achieve their potential. The program focuses on raising literacy levels
and encouraging a love for reading. Children are taught to be users of technology through the use of technology and educational
software.
At the Project H.O.M.E. K-6 Afterschool Program, we focus on two main academic areas:
literacy and technology. Literacy activities follow the Youth Education for Tomorrow (YET) Literacy Model—varying
with age, grade and reading level, assuring a balanced literacy program. This model is based upon the Pennsylvania Reading
Standards. The technology curriculum is based on the Pennsylvania Technology Standards, and the students meet and
exceed these standards each year. Much of the technology curriculum is taught connecting technology to books that the
students are reading.
